What Are We Expecting?
The new software will run from a single store. 
Windows 7, Windows 8.1 operated devices will get a free upgrade.This is so a precedented by Microsoft who often charged users for any major upgrade. 

The Software will run on devices, from phones and tablets to PCs and Xbox games consoles (hopefully not only compatible to Xbox One)

Windows 10 will get the holographic headset and Cortana
The voice controlled assistant Cortana will be a default in the new OS. Voice already works well on Xbox than any voice control systems commercially run.

It also unveiled a headset that it said would one day project the operating system over views of the real world.

The remarkable and so useful start menu is back.
Start menu had been removed in Windows 8 and though was tweaked in Windows 8.1 it did not work to satisfaction of the Windows 7 start menu experience

• Snap enhancements - a new "quadrant layout" will allow four apps to be easily arranged on the same screen

• Task view - a new button on the task bar will let the user see all open apps and files, helping them switch from one to another

• Multiple desktops - users can switch between distinct desktop screens, allowing them to group related work together rather than having to deal with a single screen overloaded with documents and apps. This is similar to a feature already available on Apple's Mac OS -BBC

This is the time to make sure you have the latest available update or service pack installed. Without Microsoft support, you will no longer receive security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software that can steal your personal information. Microsoft groups the support into categories as

1. Mainstream Support
Microsoft offers mainstream support for a minimum of 5 years from the date of a product's general availability, or for 2 years after the successor product is released, whichever is longer. For example, if you buy a new version of Windows and five years later another version is released, you will still have two years of support left for the previous version.
